Matia Meyer

Matia Meyer is an artist and graphic designer living in Vancouver. She lived the first 18 years of her life in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island and still calls the paradise her home away from home. Many of her pieces evoke the charms of the coastal countryside and are reminiscent of the magic of the flora and fauna that surrounds us.  Each piece is created combing hand drawn illustrations with digital colouring.

“Some things are simple: drawing strong and empowered women makes me feel strong and empowered. Of course, other things in life are not as simple. Each of these pieces represent a renaissance of personal growth, a confrontation of fear, a response to the pressures of daily life or cultural expectations, and sometimes– a simple observation of beauty and strength.

My work is heavily influenced by painter Alphonse Mucha and the Art Nouveau period. I also gather my inspiration from pop culture, contemporary design, the mystical wonders of folklore, mythology and magic, and most importantly, our innate connection with nature. “

Matia Meyer is a 2016 graduate of the Capilano University Illustration and Design program. She has spent that last 8 years working both in-house and freelance as a graphic designer and illustrator, as well as producing her own unique art pieces, graphic novels, and children’s stories.
