An arts district is a well-recognized, spatially defined, mixed-use area with a high concentration of varied arts and cultural spaces that anchor attraction and interact with other sectors.<\/p>\n

The boundaries of the Eastside Arts District are represented by the shaded area of the Spaces and Creators maps. These boundaries are generally defined by the following streets and features:<\/p>\n

\nWest<\/strong> \u2013 Abbott St. \/ False Creek \/ Main St.
\nSouth<\/strong> \u2013 East 2nd Ave \/ Great Northern Way \/ North Grandview Highway

Yes, because the Eastside Arts District has clearly defined boundaries, we do require that artists, creators, and spaces applying to be a part of the map and directory to be located within the district. Some exclusions do apply eg. a well known landmarks\/beacon in close proximity.<\/p>\n

We focus on spaces that have a primarily arts and cultural purpose and activity. Examples of spaces that qualify to be in our directory are galleries, artist studios, performance venues, community spaces, and others.<\/p>\n

For the Creators map, we welcome artists, designers, craftspersons, and many more. We also welcome organizations regardless of whether they have a publicly accessible space or not.<\/p>\n"},{"question":"How does Membership work?","answer":"

Currently, EAD membership is offered at no cost during the pilot year of the initiative.<\/p>\n

In the future, membership will be based on an affordable rate that will allow artists and spaces to be on the map, create and update their own profiles, as well as post event listings [coming soon].<\/p>\n"},{"question":"Who runs the EAD?","answer":"

The EAD is an initiative of the Eastside Arts Society<\/a> [EAS], and is led by the staff of the EAS, and overseen by the Board of Directors and Spaces Committee.<\/p>\n

Physical spaces within the Eastside Arts District boundaries that are dedicated to cultural activities<\/strong> will be included in this map and directory. Cultural activities include the production, development, exhibition, or performance of visual arts, performing arts, or crafts, as well as education and events related to arts and culture.<\/p>\n

We require that spaces submitted to this map have a dedicated physical address within the Eastside Arts District boundaries<\/strong>. If you are one of multiple operators, artists, or organizations working out of one physical address (for example a shared studio space, or an event space used by multiple groups), we kindly ask that you create a Creator profile for your activities instead of submitting a new space. [Submit a Creator Profile<\/a>]<\/p>\n

All artists, creators, and organizations working in a specific building are showcased and linked from both the Spaces map and the building’s dedicated page.<\/p>\n

Please submit a new Space<\/a> only<\/strong> if the location where you conduct your activities as an artist, creator, or organization is not yet included on the EAD map<\/a>.<\/p>\n"},{"question":"What\u2019s the difference between the Spaces and Creators maps?","answer":"

The Spaces map<\/strong> is intended for physical spaces that are dedicated to cultural activities<\/strong>. Cultural activities include the production, development, exhibition, or performance of visual arts, performing arts, or crafts, as well as education and events related to arts and culture.<\/p>\n

The Creators map<\/strong> is for individual artists, creative professionals, arts groups, collectives, and organizations with cultural activities as part of their mandates.<\/p>\n

We recognize that spaces and the artists, groups, or organizations working within them are frequently interconnected. To represent these connections, artists\/groups\/organizations assigned to a space are visible in that space\u2019s profile and on the map.<\/p>\n

If you are an artist\/creative working out of a unique physical space, or represent a collective or organization that operates a dedicated space for your activities, you can submit both a space and a creator profile.<\/p>\n

If you are an artist or a group working in a space shared with other artists or organizations please submit a new space only if there is no other existing space on the map at that physical location.<\/p>\n
